A Winter wedding isn’t always the first thing you think of when you start to plan your special day; the nights are drawing in, it gets colder and of course there is more chance of a wet wedding than a warm and sunny one.
That said Winter is also a romantic time of year, the leaves changing colours on the trees, roaring log fires, chunky throws and hot chocolate or a warm tipple on a cold night.
All these things open the doors for some amazing choices when it comes to planning your Winter wedding.
Where to start planning your Winter wedding
Your venue
With duller days it’s important to choose a venue with lots of well-lit space. This will also ensure you get fab photos no matter what the weather outside. A Christmas tree can also be a lovely edition to the backdrop but if you want your photos on the wall all year round be mindful not to make it a Christmas theme throughout; unless that’s exactly what you’re going for of course. Above is one of our personal favourites… the stunning Hylands Estate in Chelmsford.
Also make sure that there are facilities to ensure your guests are warm and can dry themselves off if need be on colder wetter days. Always have a plan B!
A venue with log fires provide somewhere for your guests to cosy up while you’re having your photos and catching up with everyone but remember the little things that guests will remember after the day has passed.
The Dress
As much as you should choose the dress of your dreams think practically too. You don’t want to look frozen on all your wedding photos; so make sure there is an element to your dress that will keep you warm for the outside part of the day.
Having a Winter wedding also opens up lots of possibility on the colour front when it comes to thinking about your wedding dress. You could go for rich colours on a red theme or go for more of a frosted look. Then of course there is always simple and more traditional white which can bring sparkle with some gorgeous detail and accessories.
Bridal Accessories
It’s your wedding day, what a great excuse to buy a little bling; like you needed one!
Accessories come in many forms; necklaces, earrings, headpieces and slides to name just a few. Choose pieces that compliment your dress not over power.

Winter florals
When it comes to florals this time of year is perfect for indulging in rich berry colours and deep greens; on the flip side it can also be a time for snowy whites with soft green accents; along a little bling.
Flowers are also a great way to introduce a pop of colour that will flow throughout your wedding decor including alter flowers if you are getting married in a church, centrepieces for your dining tables and the button holes for your groom and best men. They may even influence the colour dresses you choose for your bridesmaids.
The Cake
The cake is the centrepiece that brings all the other decor together. It projects further the theme of your day and a Winter wedding gives you the perfect opportunity to make your cake shine. Whether it’s by adding a little bling, some snowflakes for the season or stripping it back to nature with rich berry colours and foliage.
It shows Winter is a great time for weddings and certainly should”t be discounted when setting the date for your big day. Explore the possibilities this amazing time of year brings and create the wedding of your dreams with all the right accents and accessories.
