A Lawyer who had to answer her mobile phone while on the beach in Antigua decided that there must be a better way of life. As a jewellery afficionado with no time to shop, Rebecca Moore thought she might kill two birds with one stone. And thus was born ChezBec.com, a website for the distance and time-challenged.
“I wanted to find gorgeous, contemporary pieces and put them on my site. People could order them and have them delivered to their desk,” said Rebecca, 28, who attended Exeter University and was recently married in Tavistock.
She was bitten by the jewellery bug from an early age. “My Mum used to own an antique shop in Tetbury, Gloucestershire,” she said. “From the age of seven I used to find old jewellery at antique shops to sell in the shop.
And I’ve always accessorised really well. I’m known for it – I always have something to match every outfit.”
Rebecca wanted to keep the selection on her site small, like a boutique. “My competitors are all really large, and it takes hours to go through them,” she said. “I wanted to offer a small and focused selection of great stuff.”
Rebecca approached designers that she liked and convinced them to offer exclusive ranges for her ChezBec.com customers only. “At first it was hard, because I was a startup,” she said. “But they liked me and liked what I was doing, so they agreed.” Among her exclusive designers are Oi!, Poggi, Miss Madame and Sascha Howard.
One of the most popular services on the website has been the Boy’s Gift Guide. Men can enter their details and those of the woman they’re buying for: age, price range, colour preference, likes and dislikes. Instead of an automated answer, they get a personal selection made by Rebecca herself. The piece can be delivered straight to the recipient, packaged in luxurious pink with lashings of tissue paper and a handwritten gift card. It’s the sort of gift every woman wished her man would come up with – but in reality has to be sorted out by another woman.

NEW! For designer jewellery with a modern, contemporary twist, www.chezbec.com is a must visit. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and more have been carefully selected from the likes of Harriet Rouse, Poggi, Miss Madame – a favourite with Girls Aloud – and Sascha Howard. However, it’s not just the wide selection that makes this website worth a look. If your other half is notoriously bad at choosing you gifts, send him a none-too-subtle link to the boys’ gift guide page. All he needs to do is fill in both your details and the experts at the other end will choose a present on his behalf, gift wrap it, and post it to arrive on your special day. Wonder if Nadine’s sent Jessie Metcalf the web address yet?
